Stayed for 3 nights over new year's eve, yet again a lovely time not sure why people moan... Lovely staff, great food lovely location.
We booked as a Christmas treat for Mum and a couple of neighbours. On arrival I dropped everyone off, then went to park. I return and they were still waiting to be acknowledged. We were then shown to an empty restaurant and seated (but not offered drinks)The main stand out of the evening was poor staff training - e.g Bacardi and coke was served 'drowned' in a half pint glass - even after we had asked for this to be corrected. This is a lovely setting, we managed last year, but this will be our last visit (unless we see a management change)
This is a lovely Green King hotel with bags of character. Rooms are nice and comfortable. Staff are nice and friendly but bar staff keep wandering off leaving you standing at the bar for ages with no reason. Food is good. Had a baked Camonbert starter which for some reason was cooked out of the box so got served as a runny mush in greaseproof paper. When we queried this we got a message from the chef. If you cook the cheese in the box the box burns.... strange.... didn't spoil the night though. Well worth a stay...
Carvery description on the menu was not in practice what we received. The veg was on the plate along with gravy. Beef was tough and overcooked. Paying the extra 1 for more vegetables and meat and Yorkshire pudding had to ask the waiter for the extra pudding and the pigs in blanket seemed a surprise we were asking for them. Setting lovely building stunning with luxury. Shame chef and meal a let down.
Spent the weekend here for my nephew's wedding. The food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Everybody enjoyed the day, would thoroughly recommend
